  • Media and Communication Encyclopedia
    The Media and Communication Encyclopedia presents concepts and methods within media theory, media history, organizational communication, communication theory, narrative theory, journalism, discourse theory, digital and social media, media sociology, reception studies, visual theory, linguistics, radio, television, and film. The articles are peer reviewed.
  • International Encyclopedia of the Social & Behavioral Sciences
    Reference work. Contains topics within the fields of political science, international politics, sociology, psychology, economics, and communication.
  • UNESCO Thesaurus
    The UNESCO Thesaurus is a comprehensive and structured list of terms used in subject analysis and indexing of documents and publications within the areas of education, culture, natural sciences, social and human sciences, communication, and information.
  • Oxford Reference Online – Premium Collection
    An e-book database with a large collection of recognized reference works and dictionaries.
  • Lex.dk
    Denmark’s national encyclopedia. Contains more than 245,000 articles in Danish, written by researchers and other subject experts.
  • Ordbogen.com
    Combined electronic access to Ordbogen.com and Gyldendal’s dictionaries, among others. Contains dictionaries covering many disciplines, languages, and subject areas.
  • Dictionary of Computing
    A reference work with more than 6,000 entries on theories, software, IT, and more.
  • Dictionary of the Internet
    Definitions of many professionally relevant terms related to the Internet, software, technology, e-commerce, cybersecurity, etc.

  • JSTOR
    A journal database with full-text access to leading academic journals across all subject areas. Note: Typically there is no access to the most recent three to five years, but all other volumes are available, in some cases back to the 16th–18th centuries.
  • Project MUSE
    A journal database providing full-text access to peer-reviewed scholarly journals in the humanities and social sciences. Access is provided to the latest issues and, to varying degrees, to older issues. The collection is continuously expanded.
  • ACM Digital Library
    Covers all subject areas, including computer science, humanities, information science, and media studies.
  • Communication and Mass Media Complete
    CMMC provides references to articles in journals focusing on communication, mass media, and related fields.
  • EBSCOhost
    A broad-coverage database with a highly user-friendly interface.
  • ProQuest
    A collection of databases covering a wide range of subjects in the humanities, social sciences, natural sciences, and medicine.
  • Sage Journals Online
    An e-journal platform with scholarly, peer-reviewed journals in the social sciences, humanities, natural sciences, and engineering.
  • ScienceDirect
    Journals and books published by Elsevier and others. Full-text access is available for most journals, but only for a limited number of books. Covers the humanities, engineering, natural sciences, social sciences, and theology.
  • Scopus
    An article database and citation index. Scopus indexes more journals than any other database, and its extensive indexing and processing of cited articles make it an excellent alternative to more discipline-specific databases.
  • Springer Nature Link
    Articles, books, journals. Partial full-text. All disciplines.
  • Taylor & Francis Online Journals
    A journal platform with a large number of high-quality scholarly journals from Taylor & Francis, Routledge, Psychology Press, and others. Covers all disciplines.
  • Web of Science
    Web of Science (WoS) is an article database and citation index covering all academic fields.
  • Journalism Studies
    A peer-reviewed journal for the study and critical discussion of journalism, including theories, conceptual frameworks, methods, and political, ethical, and social dimensions.
  • Digital Journalism
    Publishes international, peer-reviewed research in digital journalism studies and provides a critical forum to advance interdisciplinary scholarship.
  • Journalism
    Journalism is an international, peer-reviewed journal. The journal is interdisciplinary and publishes theoretical and empirical research on the social, economic, political, cultural, and practical understanding of journalism.
  • Alphaville
    An international, open-access, peer-reviewed journal focusing on film and television history.
  • Communication Research
    A peer-reviewed journal published six times per calendar year. It publishes research in communication and related fields.
  • Journal of Intercultural Communication Research
    An online, peer-reviewed, English-language journal in the field of intercultural communication.
  • Mediawatch
    Owned by JP/Politikens Hus. Publishes non-peer-reviewed articles on the media industry, nationally and internationally.
  • MedieKultur
    A Danish, peer-reviewed journal publishing articles in Danish and English within communication and media research.

    An e-book database covering all disciplines. The books, which are primarily in English, come from recognized publishers.
  • Oxford Scholarship Online
    Oxford Scholarship Online provides access to a broad selection of books from Oxford University Press. Aarhus University Library subscribes to subject packages in classical studies, linguistics, literature, economics and finance, philosophy, political science, law, politics, religion, biology, and public health.

  • Retriever (formerly InfoMedia)
    Retriever (formerly InfoMedia) is a large newspaper database with full-text articles from a wide range of Danish national, regional, and local daily newspapers, local weekly papers, trade journals, magazines, and news agencies. Articles date back to approximately 1985.
  • Mediestream
    Contains radio and television broadcasts from selected Danish channels since December 2005. Mediestream is continuously updated with the latest radio and TV, although there is always a delay of approximately two weeks for new broadcasts.
  • Royal Danish Library’s DR Archive
    The archive currently contains TV and radio broadcasts from 1950 to 2024, and much more content is forthcoming. Both older broadcasts and the newest programs will be added continuously as the DR Archive moves toward completion. We are also continuously working to make the broadcasts more searchable and accessible.
  • Factiva
    A database providing access to newspapers from around the world. Partial full text.
  • ITWatch
    ITWatch provides in-depth coverage of Danish IT and telecommunications companies, focusing on the business behind the products, including strategy, management, results, competition, politics, contracts, acquisitions, innovation, profiles, careers, job changes, and much more. ITWatch is part of Watch Medier, which targets readers with an interest in society and business.
  • Netarkivet
    Netarkivet collects and preserves the Danish part of the Internet in accordance with the legal deposit law.

AI search tools can supplement your other literature searches, for example at the beginning or the end of your search process. The tools are constantly evolving and often include both free and paid features. The AI tools search through content from open, scientific archives.

    Ask an academic question and get an answer based on selected sources from the open archive Core. The answer is supplemented by a table with key points from the sources.
  • Inciteful
    Enter an article title or DOI and get a network of articles that share citations with the entered article. The citation network is based on content from the open archives OpenAlex, Semantic Scholar, Crossref, and OpenCitations.

    Enter one or more articles or DOIs and get a network of articles that share citations with the entered articles. The citation network is based on content from open archives such as OpenAlex and Semantic Scholar. Requires a free user profile.

Open archives

Open, scientific archives contain titles, abstracts, and sometimes the full text of a large number of articles, working papers, etc. The content in the open archives is not selected in the same way as in established scientific databases, so reflect critically on your search results. You can search the open archives either via an AI search tool or directly in the archive.

    Retrieves data from sources such as PubMed, arXiv, DOAJ, Unpaywall, Zenodo, and ORCID. 
  • Semantic Scholar
    Retrieves data from sources such as PubMed, arXiv, and publishers like Sage, Springer, Wiley, and Taylor & Francis.
  • Lens
    Retrieves data from sources such as PubMed, OpenAlex, Crossref, and Unpaywall.
  • Core
    Collects metadata and, in many cases, the full text of scientific articles.
  • Crossref
    Collaborates with a wide range of publishers and institutions to provide open metadata, e.g., on articles, books, preprints, datasets, etc.

    One of the most comprehensive databases in the field of business and economics. ABI/INFORM provides access to news on market trends and financial markets.
  • Business Source Complete
    A bibliographic database aimed at commercial and business research.
  • Kompass
    A business directory. Trade and industry information.

Open Archives

Open scholarly archives contain titles, abstracts, and sometimes full texts of a large number of articles, working papers, and more. Content in open archives is not selected in the same way as in established scholarly databases, so apply source criticism when evaluating your results. You can search open archives either through an AI search tool or directly in the archive.
