See which facilities we offer and/or make available at AU Library and at the Royal Danish Library at Victor Albecks Vej 1.

Newspapers

Bartholins Allé

  • Newspapers: Berlingske, Information, Jyllands-posten, Kristeligt Dagblad, Politiken and Weekendavisen.
  • Location: You can find all newspapers at the Information Desk on the first floor.
  • Lending time: Unlimited. However, you can only use the newspapers in the library.

Emdrup

  • Newspapers: Berlingske Tidende, Information (including the Saturday edition), Jyllandsposten, Politiken, and Weekend-Avisen.
  • Location: You can find all newspapers on the shelf in the "Cave" outside the thesis study seats. We keep the newspapers for one week,
  • Lending time: Unlimited. However, you can only use the newspapers in the library.

Kasernen

  • Newspapers: Politiken.
  • Location: You can find the newspaper in the library.
  • Lending time: Unlimited. However, you can only use the newspapers in the library.

Det Kgl. Bibliotek - Aarhus

  • Newspapers: Det Kgl. Bibliotek - Aarhus holds a wide variety of daily newspapers.
  • Location: You can find all newspapers in the main entrance hall by the canteen area.
  • Lending time: Unlimited. However, you can only use the newspapers in the library.

Book scanners

Bartholins Allé

  • Total number: 1
  • Location: The book scanner is in building 1351, floor 1 (close to the exit door to building 1343).
  • Lending time: No time limit. You cannot reserve the scanner, however.
  • Guide: You can find a guide on how to use the book scanner by the machine itself. Are you in doubt, feel free to ask the library staff.

Birk Centerpark

  • Total number: 1
  • Location: The book scanner is in the printer room by the semester shelves.

Natural Sciences and Technical Sciences

At Natural Sciences and Technical Sciences, the libraries are accessible around the clock for students and staff, provided you have key‑card access to the building:

  • Location: In the library next to the reading room.
  • Lending time: Can be used freely.
  • Guidance: You can connect your computer to the screen you can find in the room. 


Emdrup

  • Total number: 1
  • Location: Lower floor beside the childrens's books
  • Lending time: 3 hours at a time
  • Guide: Room for max. 5 people. Manual reservation on a schedule outside the door.

Health Sciences


Det Kgl. Bibliotek - Aarhus

  • Total number: 6
  • Location: 5 group work rooms on the first floor, and a single group room on the second floor.
  • Lending time: 2 X 3 hours per week.
  • Guide: You can reserve a group work room via the booking forms outside each room. 
    Group work rooms are available to all users of Det Kgl. Bibliotek - Aarhus.    

Moesgaard

  • Total number: 3
  • Location: Building 4235, rooms 121, 129 and 131.
  • Guide: There are no group work rooms in the library itself, but you can find the rooms in the immediate vicinity of the library.

  • Location: We have a small café area on the ground floor to the left of the main entrance. Here you can find a coffee bar with self-service facilities, which you can use during the library's opening hours. You can also buy coffee, and other refreshments in the canteen - during the canteen’s opening hours.    

Nobelparken

  • Total number: 1
  • Location: On the ground floor next to the student kitchen. You can use the coffee bar around the clock.

Kitchen facilities

  • Facilities: Refrigerator.
  • Location: Next to the coffee machine in the library on floor 1 (ground floor).

Emdrup

  • Facilities: 2 microwaves, electric kettles, a refrigerator, French presses, and a sandwich toaster.
  • Location: Room B143, located on the ground floor in the 24-hour access area.
  • Guidance: The kitchen is user-managed, but it is emptied of all contents once a week.

Health Sciences

  • Facilities: Electric kettles and a microwave.
  • Location: In the kitchenette on the 3rd floor (where you can also find the candy/soda vending machine).
  • Guidance: The kitchen is user‑managed. We expect you to tidy up and clean yourself.

Kasernen

  • Facilities: Microwave, electric kettle, a refrigerator.
  • Location: Building 1581 (the neighbouring building to the library), room 111.
  • Guidance: The kitchen is user-managed.

Katrinebjerg

  • Facilities: Electric kettle, microwave, refrigerator.
  • Location: First floor by the library.
  • Guidance: The kitchen is user‑managed — we expect you, as a user, to tidy up and clean after yourself.

Det Kgl. Bibliotek - Aarhus

  • Facilities: Kettles, microwave ovens, refrigerators.
  • Location: In “Tænkepausen” in the basement, to the left after the lockers when you come down the stairs.
  • Guidance: You can find the guidelines for using the facilities at each individual facility.

Moesgaard

  • Facilities: Coffee machines, electric kettle, microwaves, dishwasher, refrigerator, toaster, and tableware.
  • Location: Room 129 in building 4230.
  • Guidance: The kitchen is user‑managed. We expect you, as a user, to tidy up and clean after yourself.

Nobelparken

  • Facilities: Electric kettle, microwave, and refrigerator.
  • Location: Building 1463 on the ground floor or building 1461 on the second floor.
  • Guidance: The kitchen is user‑managed. You can find instructions for using the various facilities posted at each facility in the kitchen,

Study seats

Bartholins Allé

  • Location:
    • Building 1351, floor 2: 37 study seats (individual workstations)
    • Building 1351, floor 1 (ground floor): approx. 95 study seats (individual and/or group workstations)
  • Loan period: You cannot reserve the seats.
  • Guidance: There is public access during daytime hours, so you should not expect complete silence on the floors.
  • Note: The faculty also provides study seats in other buildings in the University Park, which all students within the main academic area may use.

Birk Centerpark

  • Total number: 18
  • Location: In the library.
  • Loan period: You cannot reserve the seats; they are available for free use.

Emdrup

  • Total number: Approximately 200
  • Location: Throughout the entire library — there are both quiet study areas and areas where you can talk and work in groups.
  • Loan period: You cannot reserve the seats. They are available on a first‑come, first‑served basis, and when you leave a seat, it is free for someone else to use.
  • Note: A computer is available at two seats in the basement.

Health Sciences

  • Total number: 88 study seats in the Victor Albeck Building
  • Location:
    • 40 in the library
    • 48 on the third floor
  • Loan period: You cannot reserve the seats.
  • Guidance: There is public access during daytime hours, so you should not expect complete silence.
  • Note: The faculty also provides study seats in other buildings in the University Park, which can be used by students within the main academic area.

  • Note: You can connect your laptop to the internet.

  • Location:
    • 78 study seats in the library, with access to 220V power and extension cords
    • 2 sofa groups and 3 armchairs
    • Individual study seats as well as group workstations with access to use whiteboards in the basement
  • Loan period: You cannot reserve the seats.
  • Guidance: There is public access during daytime hours, so you should not expect complete silence. As an AU student, you have 24‑hour access with your student card.
  • Note: The library also has two large screens that allow you to connect your laptop.

Det Kgl. Bibliotek - Aarhus

  • Total number: Approx. 400
  • Location: Throughout the entire library.
  • Loan period: The seats are available during the library’s opening hours, and you cannot reserve them.
  • Note: The library also has 200 quiet study seats in the Reading Room (Læsesalen) and in Stilheden 1 on the first floor and Stilheden 2 on the second floor. Read more about quiet study areas.

  • Loan period: You cannot reserve the seats.

  • Note: If you need a quiet study space, you can use the quiet study areas in Nobelparken.

Ny Munkegade

  • Location: In the library.
  • Loan period: You cannot reserve the seats.
  • Guidance: All seats are accessible to all library users, so you should not expect complete silence.

Use a reference‑management tool to create citations in your text and to keep track of your sources, notes, etc. when writing assignments.

Relax areas

Bartholins Allé

  • Total number: 2 areas
  • Location: Building 1351, floor 1 (ground floor) in the library.

Emdrup

  • Total number: 2 areas with sofas and armchairs where you can relax or hang out alone or with fellow students.
  • Location: By the newspapers on the ground floor and by the copiers/“free shelf” in the basement.
  • Guidance: You may move the furniture within the two areas as long as it stays within the areas.
  • Note: You may eat, drink coffee, knit, do absolutely nothing, or take a small nap in these areas.

Health Sciences

  • Total number: 1 break area
  • Location: Building 1265, 3rd floor.

Katrinebjerg

  • Total number: 1 area
  • Location: Building 5335, library, 1st floor.
  • Note: 2 sofa groups and 3 armchairs with small accompanying tables. Please note that the area is also used as study/workspace.

Det Kgl. Bibliotek - Aarh.us

  • Total number: 4 different areas
  • Location:
    • In Tænkepausen in the basement, there is a large area with sofas, mindfulness activities, PlayStation, table tennis, and table football.
    • In the ground‑floor canteen area and café, with sofas and access to newspapers and magazines.
    • In the Library Garden on the 1st floor.
    • In Indsigten on the 2nd floor.

Nobelparken

  • Total number: Several areas
  • Location: Building 1461 — distributed across the ground floor and the basement.
  • Note: Sofas and armchairs.

Lockers

Bartholins Allé

  • Total number: Approx. 200 lockers with keys, which you can borrow for free.
  • Location:
    • Red, white, blue, and yellow lockers: Building 1351, floor 1.
  • Loan period:
    • Red lockers are loaned for 2 months.
    • White, blue, and yellow lockers are loaned for 6 months.
    • You cannot reserve a locker, and you cannot extend a locker loan.
  • Guidance:
    • You must be registered as a user at the Royal Danish Library to borrow a locker.
    • Loan and return of locker keys take place at the staff desk in the Information area of the library.
    • If you exceed the loan period, the locker will be emptied, and any library books inside will be returned.
    • Contents from lockers that have not been emptied are stored for 6 months and can be collected by contacting the Information desk.
    • If you lose the locker key, you are required to pay the locksmith fee (new lock and key).
    • It is not permitted to store food in the lockers.

Emdrup

  • Total number: 160 lockers.
  • Location: In the basement of the library’s 24‑hour access area.
  • Loan period:
    • 6 months.
    • You can order and/or reserve a locker yourself, or ask at the information desk to hear whether any lockers are available.
    • If you have reserved a locker, you will be notified when one becomes available, after which you collect the key at the information desk.
    • You cannot renew a locker loan online. You can only renew if no one else has reserved the locker. Contact the staff at the library’s information desk.
  • Guidance:
    • Lockers are only loaned to students at DPU, Copenhagen, and you may only borrow one locker at a time.
    • If you lose your locker key, you must replace it. The cost is 300 DKK.
    • If you return the key late, the library’s fee rules for overdue materials apply, according to the library’s regulations. It is your responsibility to return the key on time. A reminder will be sent.
    • Materials from the library’s collections must be checked out to you before you place them in the locker. You may be excluded from borrowing lockers if this rule is not followed.
    • The library assumes no responsibility for materials, valuables, etc. stored in the lockers.
    • It is not permitted to store food in the lockers — you can do that in the user kitchen.
    • If loan rules are violated, the library reserves the right to empty the lockers.

Health Sciences

  • Total number: There are a number of lockers in the Victor Albeck Building, administered by Medicinerrådet.
  • Location: Victor Albeck Building, 3rd floor.
  • Loan period: One semester.
  • Guidance: The lockers are administered by the Medicinerrådet and not by AU Library — read more about the lockers and how to gain access to one (in Danish).

Kasernen

  • Total number: 18 lockers (boxes).
  • Location: Building 1582. In the entrance area when you enter the library.
  • Loan period:
    • You can borrow the boxes on a daily basis.
    • You cannot reserve the boxes.
  • Guidance: Each box contains its key with a keyring, which you can use while you are in the library.

Other boxes

  • Total number: 2 × 12 lockers (boxes)
  • Location: Building 1581, the neighbouring building to the library, in room 217 (for all students) and rooms 311 + 319 (for thesis‑writing students).
  • Loan period: You can borrow a key for a box at the library via the library system — on a monthly basis.

Det Kgl. Bibliotek - Aarhus

  • Total number: 100 large and 140 small lockers.
  • Location: In Tænkepausen in the basement.
  • Loan period:
    • You may borrow one locker at a time.
    • Maximum one semester. Remember to empty your locker at the end of the semester.
  • Guidance: You lock the lockers with a self‑chosen code — detailed instructions are available by the lockers.
  • Note: Lockers are emptied and released at the end of each semester.

Nobelparken

  • Total number: 500+
  • Location: The lockers are located in the library and in Buildings 1482 and 1483.
  • Loan period: Unlimited.
  • Guidance: The lockers are administered by Arts Buildings Services.

Spiral binding machines

Katrinebjerg

  • Total number: One machine for inserting spiral bindings.
  • Location: The machine is located on the first floor, next to the library’s security desk.
  • Guidance: Bring your own spiral binding, front cover, and back cover. You can ask the library staff for help with the binding process.

Det Kgl. Bibliotek - Aarhus

  • Total number: One machine for inserting spiral bindings.
  • Location: The machine is located by the printers and photocopier on the first floor, next to Vejledningen.
  • Guidance: You can buy front and back covers as well as spirals for the binding in Vejledningen. Payment takes place in Informationen. You can ask for help in Vejledningen if needed.

Katrinebjerg

  • Total number: 15
  • Location: You will find the study seats in a screened quiet study area located on the 1st floor, as an extension of the library, opposite the library offices, building 5335 rooms 170B–178.
  • Note: You must expect som noise, as the study seats are not located in an enclosed area. You cannot reserve the seats. 

Det Kgl. Bibliotek - Aarhus

  • Total number: 200
  • Location: You will find the seats in the Reading Room and in “Stilheden” 1 on the 1st floor, and in “Stilheden” 2 on the 2nd floor.
  • Note: The seats are available during the library's opening hours, and you cannot reserve them. 

Moesgaard

  • Total number: 39
  • Location: You will find the seats in building 4231, room 112, and in a reading room located as an extension of the library.
  • Note: You cannot reserve the seats – they are allocated on a first‑come, first‑served basis.

Nobelparken

  • Total number: Approx. 200
  • Location: You will find the seats in buildings 1461 and 1463 — distributed throughout the buildings.
  • Note: You cannot reserve the seats.

Health Sciences

  • Total number: 137
  • Location: You will find the seats in the Victor Albeck Building:
    • 36 study seats in the library.
    • 59 study seats in the reading room, 1st floor.
    • 32 study seats in the reading room in the basement.
    • 10 study seats in the small reading room in the basement.
  • Note: You cannot reserve the seats. Mobile phones must be set to silent. Access to the reading rooms in the basement requires a key card (the same one used for entering the building).

Large screens/projectors

Bartholins Allé

  • Total number: 3
  • Location: You will find the screens in the library — building 1351, floor 1 (ground floor).
  • Guide: You cannot reserve the screens.

Birk Centerpark

  • Total number: 2
  • Location: You will find the screens in the group room and in the quiet reading room.
  • Guide: You cannot reserve the screens. The screens can be connected to a PC.

Emdrup

  • Total number: 4 fixed screens, 4 mobile screens, and 1 projector.
  • Location: You can move the mobile screens around the library as needed. The remaining screens are located by the group study seats.
  • Lending time: You cannot reserve the screens. You may use them on a first‑come, first‑served basis.
  • Guide: Connection via HDMI. You can borrow an HDMI‑to‑USB 3 adapter at the service desk.

Kasernen

  • Total number: 1 (30”)
  • Location: You will find the screen between two study seats in the library.
  • Guide: You cannot reserve the screen. You can use the screen as an extra monitor for one person or for shared use.

Katrinebjerg

  • Total number: 2
  • Location: You will find the screens in the library by the group study areas.
  • Guide: You cannot reserve the screens, but you may use them on a first‑come, first‑served basis.

Det Kgl. Bibliotek - Aarhus

  • Total number: 9
  • Location: One screen in the niches in the large public area in the foyer to the left of the canteen.
    One in each of the five group rooms on “Arbejdsgangen” on the 1st floor, which you can connect your computer to (the group rooms can be booked).
    Three very large screens in Meeting Rooms 4 and 5 in “Tænkepausen” in the basement. These are available to all library users when they are not in use for meetings or teaching.
  • Lending time: The screens can be used throughout the library’s opening hours. You may only use the three large screens in Meeting Rooms 4 and 5 in “Tænkepausen” if the room is not booked for other activities.
  • Guide: You can connect to the screens in the foyer and in the group rooms on the 1st floor using the HDMI port on your computer. There are cables behind the screen that can be pulled out and connected to your computer.
    The large screens in Meeting Rooms 4 and 5 in “Tænkepausen” in the basement can be accessed via the Airtame application, which you install on your own computer.

  • Total number: 6
  • Location: Building 1461-1463, in the group rooms on the 2nd floor.
  • Guide: You cannot reserve the screens. The screens can be connected to a PC.

  • Total number: 1
  • Location: The box is located on the 1st floor in the library.
  • Lending time: The box is for intended for short phone calls and online meetings. You cannot reserve the box.

USB sticks

Det Kgl. Bibliotek - Aarhus

  • Guide: You can buy USB sticks at Det Kgl. Bibliotek - Aarhus, at the Information Desk. We offer 8GB USB sticks at a price of 45 DKK. You will find the Information Desk on your right when entering the library through the main entrance.
