  • Lex.dk
    Danish website for communication of research results to the public. Includes:

    • Den Store Danske
      Danish general encyclopedia; essential on Danish matters.
    • Gyldendals Teaterleksikon
      E-edition of the book edited by Alette Scavenius 2007. Danish theatrical reference work with articles ranging from antique theatre to modern Danish theatre.
  • The Oxford Encyclopedia of Theatre and Performance
    E-edition of the reference work from 2003 edited by Dennis Kennedy. Entries range from Greek tragedy to modern theatre and performance in the beginning of the 21st century. The work covers the following subjects: Dance, opera, radio, film, tv as well as circus and carnivals. The entries cover from short definitions to longer encyclopedic articles. Contains bibliographies.
  • The Continuum Companion to Twentieth Century Theatre
    E-edition of the reference work from 2006 edited by Colin Chambers. The work covers theatrical subjects from the 20th century - contains entries on actors, screenwriters, choreographers, composers, theatres, etc. with a large geographical scope. The work contains academic articles as well as essays written by theatre professionals. For example:
  • Literature Online
    This work includes an Encyclopedia on world literature, a text archive with classic fiction in English, access to the bibliography ‘Annual Bibliography of English Language and Literature’ (ABELL),  and gives access to a large number of full-text journals and introductions to literary classics (KnowledgeNotes Student Guides). For entry to KnowledgeNotes Student Guides, click ‘Reference Works’ and search for KnowledgeNotes.
  • Litteraturleksikon
    Litteraturleksikon is a reference work which explains concepts, methods, phenomena and genres in literature. The reference work gives the reader an overview of the field of comparative literature, including literature references and suggestions for further reading. It is written and edited by specialists and covers both classic topics and new trends in literary research.

  • Medie- og Kommunikationsleksikon
    Encyclopedia of media and communication and the concepts and ideas connected to it.
  • Oxford Reference Online/ ORO
    Online reference works and manuals from Oxford University Press with quality reference works about Greek-Roman theatre, Classical Studies and Performing Arts
    • Encyclopaedia of Aesthetics
      Online access to a 4-volume work (2. ed.) edited by Michael Kelly (2014). The work contains approximately 600 articles ranging from Plato, Heidegger to postmodernism, beauty and ugliness as well as articles about theatre, performance, authenticity and so on.

Film encyclopaedias

  • International Dictionary of Films and Filmmakers
    E-edition of a 4-volume reference work from 2001 (4. ed.) edited by Sara Pendergast and Tom Pendergast. The reference work contains articles about film, film directors, film genres, actors, and film history. It contains bibliographies and filmographies. It is published by Gale Virtual Reference Library.
  • Schirmer Encyclopaedia of Film
    E-edition of a 4-volume reference work from 2007 edited by Barry Keith Grant. It is a reference work with articles about film, film studies, film production, films from different countries, film genres, film theory, and film history. It contains bibliographies and filmographies. It is published by Gale Virtual Reference Library.
  • Filmdatabasen
    Reference work with information about Danish motion pictures from 1930 and until today as well as every Danish silent film. It brings up comprehensive information about a large number of Danish short films and documentaries as well as the premiere dates for foreign films in Danish cinemas from 2000 and forward. Master data in the database: Title, name of director, land of production, length (in minutes and meter), film category (motion picture, short fiction, documentaries, etc.), film width, display format, colour/black-white, sound/silent. It is published by Det Danske Filminstitut/Museum & Cinematek.

  • International Bibliography of Theatre & Dance with Full Text
    International, multicultural and interdisciplinary bibliography within the subjects of theatre and performance. IBTD includes more than 60.000 indexed articles, books, and dissertations. The indexing is handled by The Theatre Research Center (TRDC), Brooklyn College. From 1984-.
  • MLA - Modern Language Association
    This bibliography covers the subjects of comparative literature, language, linguistics, and folklore in a wide sense, but also dramatic art (movies, radio, TV, and theatre), theories and analyses of drama. It contains references to books, journals, conferences, etc. From 1963-.
  • Literature Online
    Reference work, text archive, and bibliography via Annual Bibliography of English Language and Literature (ABELL) concerning world literature. Grants access to a large number of full-text journals and ebooks (Penguin Classics) as well as introductions to literary classics (Penguin Classics Introductions and KnowledgeNotes).
  • Bibliotek.dk
    National bibliography of all publications in Denmark dating back to 1841. Also contains catalogues of all Danish libraries (public and academic libraries).
  • Forskningsdatabasen.dk
    The Danish National Research Database. English language available. Bibliographic database with references to Danish research publications from especially Danish universities, but also from other institutions of higher education, governmental research institutions, research councils etc. Search results can be sorted by scientific level. The database is continuously updated and is the best covering collection of Danish research on all subjects.
  • Germanistik Online
    International bibliography within Germanistic (German (and Dutch and Scandinavian) language and literature) with references to journal articles and books. It also covers German theatre. From 1959-. Partially online access to journal articles.

  • Bibliotek.dk  Search for articles
    This Danish article database contains Danish newspaper and journal articles. Older Danish articles can be found via Dansk tidsskrift indeks and Avis kronik indeks which can be found at The Royal Library - Aarhus.
  • ProQuest Research Library
    Multidisciplinary journal database that indexes about 5.000 journals, containing more than 3.500 full-text journals.
  • ProQuest
    Collection of databases that covers a wide variety of subjects within the scope of humanities, social studies, science, and medicine. It is possible to search across all of these – or to limit the search to e.g. ‘Arts’ or ‘Social sciences’.
  • Scopus
    This is the largest database of abstracts and citations from peer-reviewed literature, covering scientific journals, books, and conference proceedings. It covers a large number of international journals within the social and natural sciences but is also relevant for studies in the humanities and information/media. Many of the articles are provided in full text. All abstracts and keywords are in English, regardless of the original language of the article. The entries contain references and citations. Dating from 1966 and forward.
  • Project Muse
    Journal database that gives access to the full text of peer reviewed scientific journals within the humanities and social science. The latest issues of the journals are available and there are, to varying degrees, access to older volumes (back issues). It is continuously extended with new publications.
  • Web of Science
    Multidisciplinary database of high academic quality. Try limiting your search to e.g.:
    • Arts & Humanities Citation Index on the bottom of the front page under ‘More settings’.
  • JSTOR
    Journal database with full-text access to the leading academic journals within all subject areas. NB: it is usually not possible to access the most recent 3-5 volumes, but it is possible to access publications before that. For example, narrow your search ‘by subject’ to Performing Arts.

Ebooks and text archives / manuscripts

  • The Cambridge Companions Online Full-text access to The Cambridge Companion Online. For example The Cambridge Companion to Beckett, Brecht, Chekhov, Marlowe, Pinter, Ibsen, Moliere, Shakespeare and many more, as well as the thematic books The Cambridge Companion to English Renaissance Drama, English restoration theatre, Greek tragedy, Modern British playwrights, Twentieth Century Irish drama, Victorian and Edwardian theatre and many more.
    Possibilities of Quick Search and Advanced Search – in this way, The Cambridge Collections Online can also be used as a reference work by searching through the entire collection.
  • Literature Online - LION
    Reference work, text archive, and bibliography about world literature. The text archive attaches importance to primary literature with full-text access, and it contains more than 350.000 works by English and American writers: poetry, drama, prose (Readings of the individual work can be found in ‘Student Guides’. Click ‘Complete Contents” in the menu on the left. On the bottom under ‘Reference’ you can find ‘Knowledge Notes/Student Guides’).
  • Arkiv for Dansk Litteratur
    Archive for the classical Danish literature. Each entry has information such as biography, bibliography, and a literary portrait of the author in question.
  • Skuespilnet
    Database of Danish plays. Publications can be found at AU Library, Kasernen.
  • Ebook Central
    Multidisciplinary ebook database with nearly 20.000 titles within Comparative Literature, including Dramaturgy. The works are predominantly in English and are published in modern times from established English and American publishing houses. The database is frequently updated with new titles, but titles can also be removed.
    Systematic search: Use Browse subject - choose Literature - show more - performing arts, drama, drama/ancient & classical, film...
    Or search directly on keywords.

Newspaper and Media

  • Infomedia
    InfoMedia is a large newspaper database with full-text articles from a number of Danish nationwide, regional, and local daily and weekly newspapers, journals and magazines, news and telegram agencies.
  • Mediestream
    Available in English. Mediestream provides radio- and TV-shows from selected Danish channels since December 2005.
    Mediestream is continuously updated with the most recent radio and TV, however with a delay of about two weeks. Broadcasts sent before December 2005 can be found on DVD through the library. Continuously updated.
  • DR Bonanza
    Archive under dr.dk  with a large number of Danmarks Radio’s own productions. Bonanza is a part of DR’s Cultural Heritage Project. Bonanza has not been updated since 2014 - but is still available.
  • Altinget
    Online newspaper regarding Danish politics – news, backgrounds, analyses, and portraits. Also includes polls, press announcements, and other news from the Danish Parliament.
  • Filmcentralen/For alle
    Filmcentralen/For alle is the Danish Film Institute’s streaming service with short- and documentary films. It includes both newer and more classic films. There is also provided information, background articles, and recommendations to the films.
    NB: Filmcentralen/For alle is a free service which provides access to a large collection of films. If you are asked for a UNI-login, it means you do not have access to the film. In that case, contact the public library in Aarhus – they subscribe to the site and may be able to help.
  • Kulturmonitor
    Kulturmonitor is a digital news media which covers the news, the debates and the analyses within the area of film, performing arts, art, music, literature and cultural politics. Published by Monitormedier A/S.

       Online version of Gyldendal’s dictionaries. The dictionaries are based on the print versions of Gyldendals Røde Ordbøger.

    Danish play reviews can be found via bibliotek.dk .
  • Reviews from Infomedia
    Newspaper reviews can be found via InfoMedia. Search the title of the play - or significant words from the title. Add for example anm*. You can narrow your search to a certain period.
  • Mediestream
    It is possible to gain access to newspaper reviews that are more than 100 years old via MedieStream. More recent newspapers can only be accessed from The Royal Library, Copenhagen/Aarhus, or from The Danish Film Institute.
  • Peripeti
    Peripeti is a Danish scientific theatre journal and website with reviews. Some of the reviews can also be found in the printed version of the journal.
  • Teaterkikkerten
    New website for play reviews mainly from the stages of Aarhus, but also from the rest of Denmark. Edited by students from the study of Dramaturgy at Aarhus University. From 2017-.
  • Dansk Amatørteaters Samvirke - DATS
    This review mentions plays primarily from the publication DRAMA. All of DRAMA’s publications can be found at AU Library, Kasernen. Choose the tab ‘Manuscripts’ and narrow your search to the repertoire (at the right).

The Classification of the books

Classification and arrangement of the books in the collection of Dramaturgy in AU Library, Kasernen (in Danish).

Opgavebank

The assignment bank is a collection of assignments from the subjects at Kasernen, selected by the university instructors. The assignments have been selected with the purpose of granting insights to the good assignments’ writing technique, argumentation and presentation. The assignments concern subjects in the course, up to and including the bachelors’ theses.
