LIBQUAL is developed by the Association of Research Libraries (ARL) and began in 2000 as a web-based survey tool to assist libraries with the improvement and development of services. The surveys are designed to be easy to perform, with a focus on results.
The web-based format makes it possible to conduct the study without placing a strain on the other departments in the organization. Moreover, the standardization of the format means that many libraries across the US and Europe have carried out similar studies, allowing us a unique opportunity to:
Parts of AU Library have conducted the LIBQUAL survey before. Thus, local benchmarking can be used to measure the ongoing improvements made by the library.
A key aspect of LIBQUAL is the comment box. Over 25% of respondents leave feedback in the space provided at the end of the survey. Experience shows that many different factors are commented on – both positive and negative. These comments help to enrich and expand on the standardized nature of the study.
