Do you often get a very large and not entirely relevant search result on library.au.dk?

When using library.au.dk you are searching through an enormous amount of material. This is why you often get a large number of search results when searching for a subject. You now, however, have the possibility of limiting your search result to a specific field of study.

We have added a new filtering option, which you can use when you are looking for information within a specific discipline.

This can prove useful if you are searching for literature on a very specific topic, but are receiving far too many – and not always relevant – results.

Limit your search by discipline

In the left-hand menu, you can, when you have made a search, filter by a specific discipline. This will reduce the size of your search result, as many irrelevant results will be removed.

An example. You are searching for material on management and logistics, and are only interested in material within the field of business. You make your initial search, after which you can limit your search to the discipline of business using the left-hand menu. You have now narrowed down your result from over 1.5 million hits to just over 130,000. You have, for example, filtered out almost 300,000 hits from the discipline of medicine, which would have formed part of your search result if you had not narrowed it down to business.

130,000 hits is still a large search result, so you will need to combine this search with additional keywords in order to get a more manageable result. Read more about information seeking
